Why is Church Important to Christians?

Throughout the years church has become less and less important to people. I’m not only talking about people who haven’t been to church before but I am talking about Christians. We are growing up in a society where church is no longer a priority to people. Although church is important for everyone I am going to focus on today why it is so important for Christians to be part of the church. I want to make this easy for people to remember so I am going to call it the 3 F’s of why we need church.

Family, fed and feel are all so important to us as Christians and I am going to break each of them down and explain it a little better.

1. FAMILY

Having family is so important, I’m not just talking about your biological family but I am talking about your brothers and sisters in Christ. Having a strong church family is so important as a Christian. In a family there are all different ages of people and the Church family is no different. You have new baby Christians who are just learning what it means to be a Christian, you have Christians who have been Christians for several years and who are there for support (we will consider these the mom and dad of the Christian family) and they you have the veteran Christians who have been saved for many years and are there for teaching and wisdom (we will consider them the grandparents). Each member of the Christian family is special in their own way and needed to help each other.

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Matthew 18:20

Being human we all run into troubles, that is just part of life no matter if you are saved or a sinner. People have troubles, heartaches and pain. That’s life. What really helps in those times is have a strong Christian family to lean on. People to share experiences, ask questions, cry on and rejoice the good moments with. In a church you have all kinds of people to rely on. If you are going through a certain situation chances are that someone else in the church is too or has been in that situation before. You can ask them for help, suggestions or one of the most powerful thing of all PRAYERS! Having people to pray with you and pray for you is one of the most important things to have in your pocket. It is so comforting to know you can call upon a prayer warrior to help you in your time of need.

2. Feeding

The next reason church is important is just as important as the first, Feeding. You have to go to church to be fed, and know I don’t mean you have to go to church to eat dinner (even though that is one perk of going to church, they usually have some little old ladies that cook very good meals for special occasions and if you are from the south like me you will eat some really good fried chicken). I’m talking about getting fed spiritually.

There are several ways we can get fed spiritually. We can read the bible, talk to other Christians but I think the best way to get fed is by hearing God’s word preached from a preacher. Some people think that preaching isn’t necessary or that no one can teach them anything but boy are they wrong. I have been a Christian for almost 18 years now and I learn something new every time I’m at church. I believe people think that when the “preacher” they are listening too isn’t actually preaching what they are supposed to be or called to preach. When you hear spirit filled, studied and anointing preaching I guarantee you will learn something or God will show you something in that message that you need.

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17

I know people think they can just listen to any old preacher or any old message on YouTube or Facebook but there is just something different about being there in the moment, and listening to it as it being given to the preacher. Now don’t get me wrong messages on social media are great for people who can’t get out or when a sinner won’t go to church but they may listen to a service online but they were never meant to replace attending church.

Think about it like this. Lets say you go out to eat for dinner at a restaurant. You order your food and it comes out nice and warm and fresh for you. You eat it and it makes your belly and heart happy. When you listen to a service online it is like taking your meal to go and eating it when you get home. There is just something about it that isn’t the same. It needs warmed up, it has lost some of its flavor from being in the microwave and it just isn’t as good as it was in the restaurant. That is like a church service.

3. Feeling

Lastly is feeling. The feeling you get from walking through the church doors is something that can’t be replaced. The feeling of love, welcoming, and the spirit is just great. I’m sure some of you all have walked into a church and not felt that and let me just tell ya I’ve been there too. When that happens it is time to look for a new church. If you walk in to your church and you don’t feel like they are happy you are there or you get this funeral like feeling it is time to get out of there. Exit stage left ASAP. Take it from someone who stayed at a church they shouldn’t have too long, when you don’t feel that good feeling in a church LEAVE! You should feel happy to be in a church and be glad to be there.

I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord. Psalm 122:1

It is always nice to be in a church and hear those old hymns, hear that piano, smell the little old ladies perfume next to you, hear the whispers of little kids in the pew behind you, feel the spirit of the Lord coming down during prayer. There is just nothing like it. When you don’t miss that feeling is when you are in trouble. When you don’t have the feeling anymore then you don’t miss it and you get to where you start skipping church. That is when you lose your desire for church and lose what is important.

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Hebrews 10:25

The takeaway

Being a strong Christian is necessary in the world today. We are going to come up against trials and temptations that we didn’t even see coming. We need to stay strong and the best way to become strong is to go to church and get all the things necessary to fight our battles. We need our family beside us and behind us, we need fed the word to help strengthen us for battle and we need the feel to help grow our spirit.

If you haven’t been to church in a while please consider going back. If someone at your last church hurt you or did something you didn’t agree with just pick and different church. I promise not all churches are the same and the right church is out there for you. There are churches everywhere around the United States and probably several in your community. Just give it a try, you wont regret it.
